Larry Thirstrup, MD
Dr. Thirstrup is a mid-career medical professional and a graduate of Louisiana State University School of Medicine in Shreveport. He has experience across multiple domains of medicine, in addition to specialized training in Interventional Pain through the American Academy of Osteopathic Pain Medicine (AAOPM). He completed his training at LSU Shreveport and later at the University of Florida in Emergency Medicine, and is currently board certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM). Dr. Thirstrup is also an Adult Medicine specialist, board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, and actively participates in lifelong Maintenance of Certification.
Dr. Thirstrup completed his undergraduate education at LSU Shreveport / LSU Medical Center Shreveport through a combined six-year program in Biology, Medicine, and Surgery. His graduate studies were completed at LSU Health Sciences Center Shreveport in Internal Medicine. In addition to his core training, he has professional experience in Addiction Medicine and Dual Diagnosis Psychiatry, with advanced training through ASAM and SAMHSA certification for buprenorphine treatment.
Dr. Thirstrup’s interests include aviation, human performance factors, and root cause analysis, particularly as they apply to quality improvement in medicine. He enjoys traveling, learning languages, and spending time with his English Cream Golden Retriever. A lifetime member of Phi Sigma Iota Foreign Language Honor Society, he is fluent in Spanish, French, and German. Dr. Thirstrup has also served on the advisory board for Southeastern Louisiana University’s Lion Up Society, supporting students in recovery from substance use disorder, and enjoys mentoring young people interested in careers in healthcare.
